Costa Rica chooses online gambling operators

Gambling News and Lucky Stories

The gambling regulator in Costa Rica has received five applications for two betting licenses. Both national and international operators can apply for gambling activities in the country. The issuance of licenses takes place as part of a pilot project by the Costa Rican authorities to launch three online gambling platforms. A total of six licenses will be issued, two each for lotteries, casinos and sports betting. Thus, the authorities of Costa Rica expect to receive funds to finance a package of state social programs. Under the licensing terms, the state treasury will receive 70% of the operators’ income. In addition, a gambling market participant chosen by the regulator is required to deposit a cash deposit (from $100,000 to $200,000) and $250,000 to a guarantee fund. As My Lucky Story previously reported, a gambling experiment will be conducted in Costa Rica. Six operators will operate on a public-private partnership basis. We add that sports betting has been legalized in the US state of Wyoming since September 1, 2021. In addition, betting will be legalized in another US state of Maryland in the near future.
