It became known that Latvian casinos received significant financial support from the state to alleviate the situation associated with anti-COVID restrictions on their activities. But the fact that gambling was represented by three companies at the first steps of the list of “recipients” of assistance raised some questions from the public. Authorities explain the situation by the fact that the operators received subsidies on a par with other needy enterprises. Note that the total amount allocated to support employers for six months in Latvia amounted to one hundred million euros – of which about five million went to participants in the gambling industry. This month, the Latvian authorities introduced some easing of quarantine measures, this also applies to land-based gambling establishments of the republic. Recall – as My Lucky Story reported in mid-June 2021, the Latvian authorities allowed all gambling sites to open. In May this year, the Saeima of Latvia once again rejected the proposed amendments to gambling restrictions. Earlier it became known that the Latvian authorities are planning to introduce a ban on alcohol in land-based gambling establishments.
