The New Zealand Department of the Interior reported that non-casino slots generated quarterly revenue for 2020 of NZ$252 million ($181.4 million). This is the highest quarterly figure since 2007. Previously, the maximum profit from slot machines was recorded in December 2007 – 245 million New Zealand dollars and in September 2019 – 244 million. In general, according to the regulator, in the last quarter of 2020, revenue from lotteries – 631 million New Zealand dollars – increased by 13% compared to the same period last year, while casinos showed a decrease in profitability by 22% to 504 million. Earlier, as part of Conscious Gambling Week, slot machine halls in New Zealand were closed for one hour.
