Online Gambling in Spain Shows Solid Revenue Growth in 2020

The gross income of gambling establishments in Spain received from online gambling in 2020 increased by 13.8% and amounted to 850 million euros, according to the official industry regulator Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ). The report notes that the largest revenue (365.1 million euros) was brought by sports betting, despite a decrease in their volume by 7.1% compared to 2019 data. Online casinos became the second most important source of income (350.8 million euros), with a growth of 33.7%. Analysis by gaming segments revealed the following distribution of revenues on gaming platforms: 110.3 million euros in poker (12.96%); 16.52 million euros in bingo (up 1.94%); 350.8 million euros in casinos (41.23%), 8.01 million euros in online sweepstakes (0.94%). The coverage of online gambling players for the reporting year increased to 2.9 million people (plus 16%). The most profitable for online gambling was the fourth quarter of 2020 with revenue of 231.26 million euros. Revenues surpassed not only the previous quarter, but also the same period in 2019. It is reported that last year there were 80 players in the gaming market in Spain, most of them focused on online casinos and online sports betting.
