Residents of Armenia oppose the closure of betting shops

Gambling News and Lucky Stories

Strikes are soon expected in Armenia, as well as protests related to the next amendments to the law “On Lotteries”, due to which the number of land-based bookmakers in the republic may drastically decrease.

Such amendments to the gambling legislation, according to experts, will lead to the fact that many will either remain unemployed or lose a stable source of income. And we are talking not only about those who work in bookmakers in Armenia, but also about those who rent out premises to them. The ban could also lead to the fact that Armenia will lose part of the income in the form of tax revenues from gambling business owners. Also, experts are sure that the ban on land-based bookmakers will not help solve the problem of gambling addiction, since everyone will continue to play on the Internet. In addition, many people working in land-based bookmakers in Armenia are already ready to protest. Gambling executives have said they won’t be able to hold back their employees for long either. At the moment, both virtual bookmakers and land-based betting shops offer their services in Armenia. In total, there are about 300 betting companies in Armenia. To recall, the Armenian government has decided to amend the current taxation system for organizers of the gambling business.
