Russia plans to create a control system for search engines and VPN
Subordinate to Roskomnadzor, the Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Main Radio Frequency Center” on March 19 ordered all interested contractors to develop a new blocking system. This system will check whether sites banned in Russia are blocked by private networks, search engines, and proxy servers. The department plans to allocate 25 million rubles for the development of the project. Also, the system should be ready by December 2019. The new blocking system will have to monitor existing search engines, as well as ensure that through them the user cannot access prohibited sites, for example, virtual casinos and other illegal resources in the Russian Federation. It is noted that the blocking system will significantly reduce the cost of constant monitoring of search engines and VPNs, as well as make this process faster and better. The agency reports that the declared blocking system will not become fundamentally new, but at the moment it has no known active analogues. The initial cost of this contract is 25 million rubles. Also, the choice of a contractor who will develop a new system will be carried out through negotiations. Contractors will be able to apply for participation until March 29 this year. Applications will be considered on April 3rd. Representatives of the department noted that the new system should be ready by the end of 2019.
