There was information that the 37-year-old Russian football referee Alexander Nikolayevich Shimarygin came under close attention of the Ethics Committee of the Russian Sports Federation (RFU). The reason for the proceedings was the sports betting made by the arbitrator.It turned out that for several years in a row, Mr. Shimarygin regularly used the services of one of the bookmakers and made nineteen thousand bets for an amount exceeding 65 million Russian rubles. It should be noted that in the last football season Shimarygin served fourteen matches in the championship of the Football National League. To date, the Committee is considering several more cases of betting among professional football players. Meanwhile, at the state level, the issue of prospects for Russian betting and sports is being discussed with the advent of ERAI – the Unified Gambling Regulator in Russia. Let’s remind – three football players from the Russian clubs have been disqualified for rates at bookmakers.
