The Irish Minister demanded to rein in the bookmakers who make money on other people’s lotteries

Irish Minister of Public Expenditure and Reform Michael McGrath demanded that the government of the country to reason with betting companies. They, according to a senior official, encroached on a piece of the National Lottery and Euromillions lottery pie. McGrath said that under their trademarks, bookmakers offer similar services to misleading players under the guise of accepting bets on the lottery numbers of the operators mentioned above. At the same time, bookmakers make clever marketing steps (for example, introduce loyalty schemes) so that lottery products are purchased from them, which is prohibited by the national lottery, the minister noted. However, according to gambling industry experts, bookmakers in Ireland can do this with their lottery products. Michael Magrat has already reached out to Ireland’s Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, who has been advised of the need for legislation to ban private companies from offering lottery bets. As My Lucky Story wrote, representatives of the gambling industry in Sweden spoke in favor of depriving the state-owned gambling company Svenska Spel of a special position in the country’s gambling market. Earlier it became known that the casino of the Indian tribe Potawatomi received certain privileges from the Indiana authorities in the gambling market of the state. Recall that in the UK it was proposed to introduce a mandatory amount for gambling operators, which they must pay to prevent and combat problem gambling in the country.
