The Minister of Culture of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko, speaking to journalists, said that currently 75 hotels have applied for a new category in order to place gambling establishments on their territory in the future. According to the current legislation of Ukraine, gambling facilities can only be opened in hotels with a minimum rating of four stars. And capital hotels must correspond to the highest category – five stars. However, experts are pessimistic about the chances of most candidates, since the mere presence of a high rating does not guarantee a license from the gambling regulator. Earlier, the Gambling Regulatory Commission of Ukraine refused to issue a license to Kharkiv Palace Hotel in Kharkiv. We also recall that to date the regulator has issued two licenses for opening casinos in Lviv and Odessa.
